CAT 2022 Overview

CAT or Common Admission Test is an entrance exam that is conducted for admission to MBA and PGDM courses. IT is a national level exam which is famously known as one of the largest entrance exams in India for Management courses.

CAT or Common Admission Test is conducted every year for admission to 20 IIMS and over 1000 other CAT scoring Top B-schools in the country. As this exam is known as the largest entrance exam for Management courses every year around 2 lakh students apply for this exam.

This year 2022 CAT- Common Admission Test is expected to be held on the last Sunday of November 2022. It is will held on 27 November 2022 in the 3 slots. Common Admission Test is conducted every year by one of the 20IIMs. This year in 2022 IIM Bangalore is expected to conduct the CAT 2022. This year IIM or Indian Institutes of Management will start the registration for the CAT 2022 on August 3, 2022 (Tentative).

CAT 2022 Eligibility Criteria  

Eligibility criteria for any course are the key points without those you are not able to apply for the particular exam. To apply for CAT 2022 or common Admission Test 2022 you must meet the eligibility criterion.

CAT eligibility for the aspirants who graduated in the years 2021 and 2022

• If you are a student with “promotion/ pass” instead of “award of marks” certificates in any of the last two years of the bachelor’s program can enter the “Promotion/ Pass” option in the CAT 2022 application form.
• Due to the implementation of the above point and the fact that different evaluation patterns may be followed by different institutes/ universities across the country due to the COVID epidemic, the CAT authority has decided to remove the minimum marks (45% and 50% [Or equivalent CGPA] respectively) for appearing for the CAT 2022 exam.

CAT 2022 Age Limit  

For applying to Common Admission Test 2022, there will be no age limit. You can apply for this exam at any age but must complete the other eligibility.  

CAT 2022 Nationality

To apply for the CAT 2022 candidates belong to the Indian nation, however, foreign nationals/ PIOs are also eligible to apply for CAT 2022.   

Educational qualification:

All the candidates who want to apply for CAT 2022 must hold a Graduation/ Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from any recognized university/ institute. Students are also eligible to apply for CAT 2022 who have completed a professional degree (CA/ CS/ ICWA) with the required percentage.

Marks required to apply for CAT 2022

All the candidates must have secured at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA for applying to CAT 2022. Candidates who belong to the reserved category such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and PWD- Persons with Disability must have secured a minimum of 45% marks or CGPA.

Final Year students

Candidates who are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification exam and are awaiting for their graduation results eligible to apply for the CAT 2022.

Work Experience

For applying to the CAT 2022, it is not mandatory to have a work experience. In case a candidate has any work experience he will be eligible to get a preference.

Reservation

IIM- Indian Institutes of Management offers standard reservations as per guidelines of the government for the various categories of students who apply for any business management program.

Who is not eligible for the CAT 2022?

• If a candidate is in the process of completing his/her professional degree courses like CA/ CS/ ICWA without appearing for their bachelor’s degree.
• If a candidate is pursuing both his/her bachelor’s degree and a professional degree but has not completed yet any of these.
• If the candidate’s score in the bachelor’s or UG degree is less than 50% and belongs to the general category is not eligible to apply for the CAT 2022.
• If a candidate belongs to a reserved category and has less than 45% marks, is ineligible to apply for the CAT 2022.
• If the degree of the candidate is not recognized by any of MHRD/ AICTE/ UGC, these candidates will not be considered eligible candidates for the CAT examination 2022.

Things to have in mind when you will fill out your application form for CAT 2022 or Common Admission Test 2022

•             It is mandatory for the candidates who wish to apply for the CAT 2022 to mention their Aadhaar number in the application form.

•             Candidates who wish to claim help under a reserved category or a sub-category should specify their category in the application form.

•             Candidates should prefer to fill out their CAT application form on Internet Explorer 7 or any browser and ensure that they should have high-speed internet that working on their PC or laptop.

CAT 2022 Application form

CAT Application form notification will be released by the exam authority on its official website. The Application form notification is expected to release in the fourth week of July 2022 and the application can be started in the first week of August 2022.

Steps to fill the CAT 2022 Application form

Step 1: Registration

Registration for CAT 2022 involves generating CAT login credentials for filling out the application form for CAT 202. Candidates are advised to follow the below-given steps to register for the CAT 2022.

•             First, visit the CAT 2022 official website i.e. iimcat.ac.in

•             Then go to the “CAT 2022 Registration” link that will be provided on the home page of the website

•             Then you will need to enter or fill in the required valid details such as your email, contact number, name, country, date of birth, etc.

•             Click on the submit button to get an OTP.

•             Then enter the captcha code and the OTP and click on the ‘I agree and submit.

•             Your User ID for the CAT 2022 and the password will be generated and you will receive it on your registered email id.

•             Note down your User ID and Password for future correspondence.

Step 2: Filling the application form

After generating the User ID and Password for the CAT 2022, your next step will be to fill in the application form.

To fill in the application form you will need to log in to the portal by using the credentials that you receive on your registered email Id.

You need to log in with the same ID or the password, when you will enter the correct details the system will redirect you to you on the application form page. You will need to fill in the details in the application form.

Personal Details:

You will have to fill in your Date of Birth, Gender, Category, Nationality, Details of Parents, Address of correspondence, and Emergency contact details in the application form.

Academic Details:

Your class 10th marks, class 12th marks, graduation and post-graduation scores or marks, professional degree/ course details if any you have.

Work Experience Details:

Although we are already aware of this that it is not a mandatory field to enter the work experience in the application form, if you have, you can enter full-time work experience details in this section.

IIM Program Preference:

This is one of the most important that you must select the IIM institute and the program for which you wish to apply for, and also the interview city.

CAT Exam City Preference:

You can select 6 CAT exam cities from the drop-down list that will be provided at the time of application form filling based on your convenience of time and travel.

Step 3: Uploading the scanned documents

While filling out the application form for Common Admission Test 2022 you will need to upload the documents also without this step your application form will not be submitted. For this you will need to upload the scanned images of the below-given documents:

Photograph:

Candidates will need to upload a recent photograph that should not be older than 6 months. The size of the Photograph should be less than or equal to 80KB and the format should be in JPG or JPEG only.     

Signature:

Candidates will need to upload a scanned photo of signature and it should be done only in black ink on white paper. The size of the image of the signature should not be more than 80KB with a dimension of 80mm*35mm. The format of the image should be JPG or JPEG only.   

NC-OBC/ SC/ ST Certificate:

Candidates will need to upload a scanned Self-attested copy of the category certificate in PDF format. The minimum PDF size for the document should be 200 KB.  

PwD Certificate: 

Candidates will need to upload a scanned PwD certificate if any. The PwD certificate of the candidates should be in PDF format only and it should not be less than 200Kb. 

Step 4: Payment of the application fee

When you will upload your scanned images of the photographs and signature and of the required documents, your next step will be to pay the required application fee. If a candidate doesn’t pay the application fee his/her CAT application form 2022 will not be submitted. So, it is important to pay the application fee for submitting the Application form for CAT 2022.   

For the fee Payment for CAT 2022, you can pay online mode. You are permitted to pay the Application fee by using a Debit/Credit card or Internet Banking or UPI or online wallets.

When you will pay the application fee for Common Admission Test 2022, you will get an SMS on your registered mobile number and also an email regarding the payment of the fee for the CAT 2022. You are also allowed to download your fee receipt and can take it for future reference.

CAT 2022 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for CAT 2022 is released by the CAT exam authority on its official website. CAT Exam will consist of 66 questions on many subjects.

Common Admission Test or CAT is designed by the conducting body IIMs. Candidates who are planning to appear for the CAT exam this year must familiarise themselves with the latest CAT exam pattern. It will help you in understanding the structure of CAT- Common Admission test question paper and marking scheme to prepare better.   

The pattern of the CAT exam is based on similar entrance exams. This entrance exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is to be solved within a particular time duration.

Earlier, the CAT exam duration was 180 minutes with 100 questions but in the year 2020 or for CAT 2022, due to the covid-19 pandemic, both numbers of questions and exam duration was reduced. The number of questions was reduced to 76 and the exam duration to solve these questions was reduced to 120 minutes.

In CAT 2021, the total questions were further reduced to 66 but the exam duration of the paper was the same. This year, the exam pattern for CAT 2022 is expected to be on the same lines as the previous year.

Mode of Exam:

CAT 2022 or Common Admission Test will be conducted online as CBT mode at around 438 test centres located in 158+ major cities in the country.

CAT Exam Duration:

The duration of the Common Admission Test 2022 will be 120 minutes for the entire paper in which you will be provided 2 sections to solve.

Sectional Time Limit:

There will be 40 minutes for each section and the total sections will be 3 which are Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Aptitude (QA).

Number of Questions: The total number of questions in the exam will be 66 questions in 70-75% MCQs and 25-30% TITA-type questions.

CAT 2022 Syllabus

The syllabus for the CAT 2022 exam is vast, thus the aspirants must plan its coverage in a time-bound manner.

The syllabus for the CAT exam includes three subjects that are Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR). Under this section (VARC), questions from sentence correction, vocabulary, grammar, or fill in the blanks have not appeared in the last three years in the CAT exam.

So it’s not meaningful to dedicate to give extensive time to these topics because these have not been part of the questions paper.

Instead of this, the questions from the para jumble topic have become an integral part of this section. But if you want to prepare for the complete syllabus you can also prepare for those topics.

The difficulty level of the para jumbles questions has also been moderate in the past few years.

•     There will be a total of 22 questions in this quantitative aptitude section. 

•     Arithmetic sections hold the highest weightage of all of the topics in the CAT Syllabus for QA. In fact, this ranks at the second position after reading comprehension in terms of weightage in the CAT 2022 exam.  

•     Most of the questions in a quantitative section are from general topics such as P&L, Number systems, Geometry, etc.

CAT 2022 Cut-off and MBA Admission 2023-25

CAT Cut off is the minimum percentile that you will require to participate in the MBA admission process of IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management), IITs, and other CAT score accepting b-schools and top institutions of the country.

•             IIM CAP is a Common Admission Process which is conducted for admissions to 9 new IIMs- IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Kashipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Raipur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur.
